My #hamr Weekday Update

Maintenance On KLM 40m 3 Element Monobander
Good afternoon from inside #hamr shackadelic as my TS850S is quiet not because the wireless wants to be quiet instead I'm listening to breaking waves near the club house. Probably, like the current status of Cycle 24, the central coast of California continues enjoying phenomenal weather before the next storm surge. Who didn't enjoy the sudden uptick in sunspot numbers perfectly timed over the holidays? I did.

In the meantime, between sunspots and terrestrial storms, we accomplished needed maintenance on the 40m monobander on the left tower at SL's antenna ranch. I used a Milwaukee impact wrench to tighten the clamps securing the director to the boom. A combination wrench with ratchet head works well however, an impact wrench works faster at least during removal.

Well, I thought its initial torque was enough, and turned out I needed to add a few more turns on the clamp hardware. I used a combination wrench to re-accomplish previous work. Lesson learned.

John, W6SL Raising His Tower After Completing Maintenance
The day was perfect for antenna maintenance. We double checked the elements and called it as good as it can get while adding a few more years of longevity to the 40m three element yagi.

Lastly, I'm looking forward to time in the pilot's seat this weekend as CQ World Wide 160 Meter brings activity to the Top Band. The antenna system is a vertically polarized full size 160m loop. Also, the 12 and 17m antenna on the left tower, provides a perch for a pair of hawks who like hunting on the premise. They tend to show up in the afternoon and a pleasure to watch through the shack window.

Contest on!
