From The W6SL DX Desk | Bedlam

An interesting phenomenon yesterday on 15 PT0S was running a pileup answering between 5 and 15 up. Actually a fairly well behaved group with only one lid tuning up on the DXers frequency at any one time. However, needless to say, someone tuned a big amp every minute or so.

Nothing is ever perfect.

All of a sudden the PT0 was swamped by callers on his frequency. LOUD signals that blocked him out. And they kept calling. The frequency cops went BESERK. UP. UP. He's working SPLIT. LID UP QSY UP UP.

And some other rude remarks which won't be mentioned here. Frequency cops came out of the woodwork through the windows, out from under the shack tables, out from under the beds.

"UP UP UP" came the cry of the multitude.

No doubt some came over from other bands just to yell UP. Seemed like hundreds of them all yelling UP. . There was no way that anyone could hear the  PT0 through the callers and the cops. After 10 minutes PT0S didn't hear anyone calling and went QRT.

So what happened?

The V84SMD expedition couldn't hear the PT0 and called CQ 5 Khz below the PT0 and said he was listening 5 up , i.e. right on top of the PT0. The stupid cops were yelling UP, UP when they should have been yelling DOWN, DOWN.

Actually they shouldn't have been yelling anything. I sat and listened to this whole ridiculous debacle then hit the little switch on my 756 PRO that is labeled Power. Enough nonsense for the day.

Footnote: John, W6SL a.k.a. Big Kahuna is my mentor and an accomplished DXer with enough wall paper for a pair of shacks or more. Hopefully, we will continue reading about his DXing adventures in the near future titled, "From The W6SL DX Desk".
