ShackTech

Photograph one taken of Ham Radio Deluxe software running in Digital Master 780 mode configured for Morse code. I was totally blown away when the first images presented themselves on the liquid crystal display.

There are many steps from here although, as a neophyte geek, I was pleasantly surprised.

Goody, author of The K3NG Report, who elevated his rig while operating outdoors using a recycled wire spool inspired the placement of the FT100 on a Plexiglas drawer. I can easily reach over and spin the dial.

Photograph two is a full screen shot taken with my Olympus D-550 Digital Camera with files stored on my DataTraveler four gigabyte flash drive. I'm listening to a dead band.

Photograph three captures the box or West Mountain Radio's RIGblaster nomic without FT100 interface cabling. I plan on installing the finally connection sometime in the near future. However its current configuration between rig speaker output and Aspire 5532 notebook speaker input was enough to get the job done. Basically, I have a band scope, thanks to Ham Radio Deluxe.

I want to experiment with the band scope during CQ WPX CW later this month.

Photograph four illustrates the demand for connections, additionally, I used a recycled 3.5mm 1/8th inch stereo phone plug to complete rudimentary set up.

P.S. Thank you Paul, K3PG!

Our Social Media Revolution

The message is clear and it is social media. A cluster of ham radio operators understood a few years ago that a wave, no more like a tsunami, would crash against the shores of culture and it is here. It is not a fad. Social media is transforming our daily lives from inter-personal relationships too business-to-business transactions.

Perhaps, one might say as Alvin Toffler did, this is a power shift.

Failure to realize this transformation, most likely, will leave institutions, organizations, and individuals on the boondocks of the 20th Century.

A tough weekend inside the cans given changing ionospheric conditions although KK7S captured a 3830 top slot position prior to log adjudication. Out of state participant, N6MU, battled tough conditions on 20m leading the Southern California Contest Club to its banner position in the low power category.

It was not easy with near flat conditions however KK7S and N6MU get the honors! Well done.

Contest on.

The fastest 30 minutes in RadioSport presses forward into its Spring season and Jim, N3BB fast break strategy and full court press lead the Central Texas DX and Contest Club to a second banner position in three weeks. A job well done for the team.

Mad River Radio Club (MRRC) is making its presences known and I'm looking for a banner position sometime in the future. I always liked the club's name going back to my novice days in Western Pennsylvania -- Mad River, right on.
