Disqualification (DQ) in any sport is a big deal and sends a message to all participants, "Break the rules then suffer the consequences."
The means to cheat one's station into the Box may not be entirely eliminated but odds are a station and its operators will eventually be caught. The diagnostic tools are better in addition to Perseus listening system coming on-line to further confirm log data. Contest Advisory Committees have evaluated the long-term cost and the expense account is due.
The game of padding is disappearing and what is left for the beating the rules at any cost? International embarrassment at the expense of one's reputation which diminishes peer-to-peer credibility. Is not RadioSport about peer-to-peer credibility, reputation, and adoration? I, for one look to those in the Box as examples of leadership, technological prowess, and determination
Basically, a station inside the Box, receives the same treatment as a star athlete in any other sport. The station is on the cover of a magazine. There is personal value and revenue generation when photographs of rigs, antennas, computers, switches, coax, connectors, or keyers are published. One's station is featured as cutting edge and its operators the best in the hobby. If the best RadioSport operators operate using X-transceiver plus Y-antenna and produced Z-results then A-manufacturers are solid.
Everyone takes a hit when a station and its operators are caught cheating. The sport itself is embarrassed and left with the wreckage. The Box is tainted with the possibility of asterisks. Leadership at the station level in a time when the hobby needs the Best of the Best is damaged. I take this stuff seriously because I believe.
I believe in the sanctity of the Box scores that the rules are followed to the letter. I believe in good sportsmanship and the integrity of the athletes who participate. I'm tired to the bones by the march of this cheating madness. I have suffered enough and my disappointment account is running near zero balance. There is no more credit for cheating behavior. Period. End of discussion.
Let the message be clear, "Break the rules then suffer the consequences."
